Use the Right Click in Lightroom 3 (Video Tutorial)

So many questions can be answered by simply right clicking in Lightroom. If you want to do something to anything in Lightroom, try right clicking it and see what you get. This is just a short list of things that the right click can do and by no means exhaustive. Just right click everything in Lightroom, even the little triangles at the edge of the screen, or the individual section headings on the left and right panels. Spend 20 minutes just right clicking. It will answer so many questions that you will no longer have to ask me about. As much as I like being needed… I’d rather have you exploring and discovering things for yourself.

The Difference Between Good and Great Photographers

I have always said that the difference between a good photographer and a great photographer is in what they choose to show to the world.  Cartier-Bresson said that “showing your contact sheet is like taking your pants off in public.”  The photographer who is willing to show everything to the public, puts their weaknesses on display and waters down the potency of their vision.  When photographers flood their portfolio with inferior images for the sake of volume, the images become an albatross hung around the neck of the collection and they drag the work down.

On the other hand, when a photographer is a harsh editor and honest with himself when selecting his portfolio, he will reject the simply adequate in favor of the great, resulting in the elevation of the entire portfolio.  The public then sees each photo in the collection as brilliant, and they then assume that everything the …

Sometimes you want to warm up a large number of images, but the white balance is different for each image, so using the temperature slider in the develop module is not an option. That is when you need relative adjustments. Here’s a little lesson on the difference between the develop module and the quick develop panel in Lightroom.

Using Export Actions in Adobe Lightroom

Lightroom isn’t just limited to what you do in Lightroom. Once you are finished with your images in Lightroom, Lightroom can hand off your images to another program and direct that application to perform any number tasks. Use photoshop actions, import images into other programs, or even use automator scripts. The sky is the limit… or perhaps the programs you own are the limit. Suffice it to say, this is one of my favorite little features in Lightroom.
